Kapil had just returned from his annual visit. He was tired, his body aching.
His brother Kartik walked in. “You wait all year for this trip… but you come back like this every time. Why do you still go?”
Kapil smiled faintly. “Because they wait for me too. For ten days, I am welcomed with love, music, and care. They celebrate me.”
“Then what goes wrong?” Kartik asked.
“The last day,” Kapil whispered. “It always breaks my heart.”
He continued,
“A huge crowd gathers to bid me goodbye. It should be beautiful… but it isn’t. Some lose control. There is disrespect, chaos, and shame. I leave quietly, unable to hold my head high.”
Kartik looked at him, pained. “And this?” he asked, pointing at his injuries.
“My wounds will heal,” Kapil said softly. “But what hurts more is something deeper.”
He paused.
“The water that carries me away… she is suffering. Filled with plastic and toxins, she is choking. People don’t see that they are harming their own world.”
Silence filled the room.
Kapil looked ahead, his voice heavy with sadness.
“If they don’t change… one day, even I won’t be able to help them.”
Kapil is Lord Ganesha — welcomed with devotion, but sent away with neglect. A reminder that true faith lies in respect, responsibility, and care for both people and the planet.
